Poet Seunmanuel Faleye’s collection *If I Were My Country’s President* has been released, offering bold visions for Nigeria’s future
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Africa Literature Trust Fund has announced the release of If I Were My Country’s President, a compelling poetry collection by celebrated Nigerian media personality and poet Seunmanuel Faleye.

Scheduled for official launch on March 1, 2025, the book promises to spark meaningful conversations about governance, social justice, and national progress.
In this thought-provoking collection, Faleye explores the complexities of contemporary Nigerian society through his distinctive poetic style.
The poems address critical issues like economic disparity, governance, and national cohesion, offering both sharp critiques and visionary solutions for a better Nigeria.
“Poetry has always been a powerful tool for driving social change,” Faleye remarked.
“Through these verses, I’m not just highlighting our struggles—I’m inviting readers to imagine a Nigeria led by purposeful action and visionary leadership.
“Every poem is a dialogue about what’s possible when we dare to envision and commit to a brighter future.”
The book’s foreword is written by Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, Senator representing Ogun East and former Governor of Ogun State. Daniel describes the collection as, “…far more than a compilation of poems; it’s a manifesto for national introspection and renewal.
“I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone passionate about building a better Nigeria, from politicians and public servants to students and ordinary citizens.”
Following the book’s release, Faleye will embark on a pan-African tour beginning in April 2025, visiting three African countries.
The tour will feature book readings, workshops, and interactive sessions with local literary communities.
“This tour is about more than promoting a book,” Faleye explained.
“It’s an opportunity to spark a continent-wide conversation about our shared struggles and collective solutions.
“The challenges we face as African nations are interconnected, and poetry can serve as a powerful medium to foster understanding and inspire action.”
Faleye is a distinguished Nigerian journalist and filmmaker known for his dedication to themes of social justice and national development.
His award-winning short film Deeper Truth addresses issues of religious and ethnic tolerance in Northeast Nigeria.
