The Warriors of Zimbabwe seek their first win over Nigeria in 44 years as they face the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo

The two teams, who have had a long-standing football rivalry, will battle it out in what promises to be an exciting encounter.

Zimbabwe’s last victory over Nigeria dates back to 1981, when they triumphed in a friendly match on home soil. Since then, the Super Eagles have dominated the fixture, winning four of the seven encounters between the two sides, with three matches ending in a draw.

Zimbabwe’s quest for their first win over Nigeria in over four decades will undoubtedly add extra intensity to the upcoming clash.

Historically, the Warriors have not fared well on Nigerian soil, having visited the country for competitive games only twice. In the 1989 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, Zimbabwe suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat.

Their most recent visit, in 2005 for a World Cup qualifier, saw them fall 5-1 to the Super Eagles.

While the Warriors have struggled in competitive fixtures against Nigeria, recent friendlies have seen closer encounters.

The two teams played to a goalless draw in Lagos in 2019, and in the current 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Super Eagles held Michael Nees’ Zimbabwe side to a 1-1 draw on matchday two.

With the two teams now facing off once again, the Warriors will be eager to secure a historic win, while Nigeria will look to continue their dominance over Zimbabwe.
