The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, commenced around 3:00 p.m. and included the National Security Adviser, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff, and other key security personnel.

This urgent meeting follows President Tinubu’s return from an 18-day working visit to France and a brief stopover in London. During his absence, Nigeria experienced a significant rise in violent incidents.

In Plateau State, renewed communal clashes resulted in the loss of over 80 lives, while separate attacks in Benue State reportedly claimed more than 50 lives.

The president’s emergency meeting is aimed at reassessing the nation’s security strategies and crafting a more effective response to the threats plaguing various parts of the country,” as stated in the press release.

Additionally, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State raised alarm over the deteriorating security situation in his region, warning that several communities are falling back under the control of Boko Haram insurgents.

Speaking at a Special Expanded Security Meeting in Maiduguri on Tuesday, Governor Zulum expressed deep concern over repeated attacks on towns such as Wajirko,Sabon Gari in Damboa LGA, Wulgo in Gamboru Ngala, and Izge in Gwoza LGA. He reported that military formations in some of these areas had been overrun.

Despite acknowledging the relative peace achieved in the past three years due to federal government support, Governor Zulum emphasized that the recent developments represent a serious setback for Borno and the broader North-East region.
