The Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, voices concern over the recent resurgence of insurgent attacks, warning it could undermine progress made in the region

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t the opening of the 11th meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum in Damaturu, Yobe State, the Forum’s Chairman and Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, expressed serious concern regarding the recent increase in insurgent attacks across the North-East region.

He cautioned that these renewed attacks have the potential to jeopardize the significant successes achieved in the ongoing fight against insurgency.

Governor Zulum commended the efforts of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and urged them to sustain their determined efforts to bring the war to a conclusive end.

However, he stressed the need for the military to re-evaluate its operational strategy to adopt a more offensive posture in response to the re-emergence of attacks.

The recent re-emergence of attacks by the insurgents is a matter of serious concern capable of undermining the successes already recorded in the theatre of war.” – Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, in his welcome address, echoed the importance of collaboration between state and federal governments, as well as security agencies, in countering the resurgence of insurgent activities.

He also emphasized the critical need to create employment opportunities for the youth to prevent their recruitment into terrorism, banditry, and other social vices.

Governor Buni urged his fellow governors to act swiftly to consolidate the gains made in peace, security, and socio-economic development in recent years.
