[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igerian pastor Timothy Omotoso has been arrested in East London, South Africa, early Saturday morning on charges related to violations of the South Africa Immigration Act. The arrest occurred shortly after he finished a church service.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola confirmed the arrest, stating that the operation was conducted at approximately 5 a.m. by members of the Department of Home Affairs’ Immigration Inspectorate and the South African Police Service.
“He is facing charges under the Immigration Act and is expected to appear in court on Monday,” General Masemola announced.
This latest development follows closely on the heels of Omotoso’s acquittal, along with two co-accused, on over 30 serious charges, including rape and human trafficking.
The lengthy and highly publicized trial spanned nearly eight years.

The Department of Home Affairs is anticipated to issue an official statement later today concerning the circumstances surrounding Omotoso’s arrest.
