GTBank stated it is taking all necessary legal steps to prevent any “illegal or fraudulent execution” in the ongoing court case.

Innoson Nigeria Limited had publicly announced that it secured a writ of Fifa from the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State.

The company claimed this writ was intended to enforce a judgment previously delivered by the Federal High Court in Ibadan and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Mr. Erhi Obebeduo, the Company Secretary of GTBank, provided a crucial clarification.

It is important to state that the judgment allegedly in issue is in respect of a garnishee proceedings against the account of the Nigerian Customs Service Board domiciled with the bank and not against the bank as an entity.

He assured the bank’s customers of the safety and security of their funds, explaining that the judgment in question is applicable to an account belonging to the Nigerian Customs Service Board (NCSB) domiciled with the bank, and not against GTBank as a corporate entity.

“The attention of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc has been drawn to statements circulating in the news and social media in respect of a purported enforcement of a judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, at one of its branches in Anambra State,” the statement read.

GTBank emphasized its commitment to upholding the law. “The bank, as a law-abiding corporate citizen, is taking all necessary legal steps to address this situation and ensure that no illegal or fraudulent execution is carried out,” it stated.

The bank further reiterated its stance: “It is important to state that the judgment allegedly in issue is in respect of a garnishee proceedings against the account of the Nigerian Customs Service Board domiciled with the bank and not against the bank as an entity.

The bank remains committed to providing best-in-class customer experience to all its valued customers.”
