[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s the Ileya Festival approaches, Olori Janet Afolabi, CNN award-winning journalist and Queen of Apomu Kingdom, has demonstrated remarkable philanthropy by distributing 150 bags of 50kg rice to the people of Apomu.

Concurrently, she officially launched a new food bank in the ancient city, located in Osun State, aiming to combat food insecurity in rural communities.
Olori Afolabi stated that the substantial food distribution is a direct response to the pressing issue of hunger prevalent in many rural areas.
“It is aimed at providing immediate relief to those in need and support rural families,” she explained.
“Every package of rice represents a moment of relief. As we distribute the food, we are not just meeting a basic need; we are offering compassion, care, and kindness. We are not just filling stomachs, we are filling hearts with hope because every act of kindness, no matter how small, can have a profound impact.”

The rice distribution coincided with the launch of the Olori Janet Afolabi Foundation Food Bank, which took place on June 3, 2024, at the palace of the Alapomu of Apomu, the traditional head of Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State.
Speaking at the launch, Olori Afolabi emphasized the new initiative’s significance.
“We are honoured to launch this food bank to address hunger and promote well-being in our community,” she stated.
“We recognize that hunger is a reality for many in our community, and we want to do something about it.”
The newly established food bank is designed to offer a range of services beyond just providing sustenance.
These include direct food distribution to indigent families and comprehensive support programmes focused on nutrition education and counselling.
“Our Food bank is more than a pantry,” Olori Afolabi affirmed.
