Pastor Adefarasin gun incident

Lagos Police interrogate Pastor Paul Adefarasin over viral video showing him holding a metallic object in traffic. He denies brandishing a firearm

The Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, where detectives began their investigation.

Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, told journalists that no one is above the law.

He stated that Pastor Adefarasin reported voluntarily and has been interrogated by officers assigned to the case.

Their probe followed the circulation of a viral video showing the pastor, in an unregistered black Range Rover, appearing to confront a content creator with what many viewers interpreted as a firearm.

The video, which first appeared on X (formerly Twitter), showed the pastor winding down his tinted window and raising a metallic object while addressing the man filming his vehicle.

The brief encounter ended with the content creator apologising, but social media reaction intensified rapidly, leading to public pressure on authorities to act.

In response to the allegations, Pastor Adefarasin firmly denied holding or pointing a firearm. Speaking during a Sunday service and in a social media post, he clarified that the object was not a gun.

“That was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone,” he stated.

He described the controversy as a deliberate act of mischief and misunderstanding. The pastor further claimed that he does not possess a firearm licence and does not carry weapons.

He attributed the backlash to what he called ‘clickbaiters’ and ‘forces of darkness’ determined to generate traffic from sensationalism.

The police have promised to make the outcome of the investigation public.

Meanwhile, the incident continues to draw mixed reactions across the country, raising broader questions about public conduct, accountability, and the influence of digital media on reputation.
