VeryDarkMan Benue massacre coverage has drawn national attention to the horrific killings in Yelewata, Benue State, where suspected herdsmen murdered over 200 villagers in a coordinated overnight attack.

Broadcasting live from the scene, VeryDarkMan spoke with survivors who recounted how the attackers struck during a rainstorm around 10.45 pm, burning families alive and looting their homes.

The attack, which occurred four days ago, left an estimated 250 people dead across two villages, with homes and granaries set ablaze using petrol.

One man led VeryDarkMan through buildings where dozens were killed, pointing out a structure with 40 victims, another with 35, and a foodstore where 15 more including the owner were murdered.

In another location, the mother of a Catholic priest was among those killed.

Despite early warnings, residents said only the community’s youth and a few prepared police officers stood in defence until reinforcements arrived at 2 am.

They killed families of twelve, burned stalls with fuel, and no help came until 2 am, a Yelewata resident told VeryDarkMan.

By then, most of the damage had been done. One survivor said: “They killed families of twelve, burned stalls with fuel, and no help came until 2 am.”

The economic toll is also devastating. A prominent trader lost ₦20 million worth of stored food and his brother, a pharmacist, during the onslaught.

VeryDarkMan expressed sorrow to grieving families and called out the government and media for their silence.

“We are being failed,” he said, urging Nigerians to demand accountability and protection for rural communities facing frequent attacks.

His reporting reignited debate on the government’s response to internal security threats and the role of national media in highlighting rural atrocities.
