Following the press release jointly issued by the National Association of Emure Local Government Students’ Union (NAELGS) and the Emure Youth Forum (EYF) on 23rd June, 2025, concerning the unjust proposed recovery of aluminum conductors from the Alapoto Afforestation Site by the Ekiti State Electricity Board, a peaceful resolution meeting was convened in Emure-Ekiti on 28th June, 2025.

The meeting, characterized by mutual respect and dialogue, had in attendance:

•Hon. Tosin Adedayo, Chairman, Emure Local Government with Secretary and others LG Executives

•Executives of the Emure Ekiti Progressive Association (EEPA)

•Emure Traditional Chiefs, including Chief Olisa, Chief Owajoba, and Chief Ogunyemi

•Security agencies: Nigeria Police, DSS, and NSCDC

•Leaders of NAELGS and EYF with all students and youths

ISSUES DISCUSSED

At the heart of the dialogue was the critical electricity crisis in Emure, and the attempt to extract vital infrastructure from a community that has suffered over nine (9) months of total blackout.

The Local Government Chairman, Hon. Tosin Adedayo, clarified that the directive to retrieve the aluminum conductors came from the Ekiti State Electricity Board, acting on orders from the state government. The chairman, with sincerity and humility, pleaded for calm and time, assuring that electricity will be restored to Emure within two (2) months.

RESOLUTION AND TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF PROTEST

Out of respect for our community leaders, elders, and stakeholders with the fatherly intervention of Prince Ayogbade Ogunshina, President of EEPA, whose consistent efforts for community development are well recognized.

we have agreed to suspend the scheduled peaceful protest initially planned for Monday, 30th June 2025.

This decision also comes in appreciation of the traditional chiefs and respected elders who stood firmly as mediators and voices of peace.

OUR DEMANDS REMAIN UNCHANGED!

*•Restoration of Electricity to Emure. This is a non-negotiable demand that must be met within the agreed two-month

•Infrastructure Protection

•Inclusive Governance. The youths and students of Emure must be involved in all future decisions concerning the development, infrastructure, and welfare of our people.

•Sustainable Leadership. The Emure Local Government Council is expected to begin implementing visible and people centered developmental reforms.

We state clearly and without ambiguity!

If electricity is not restored within two months, NAELGS and EYF will resume a well coordinated peaceful protest, engaging media houses, civil society, and national youth organizations.

We will not be manipulated, intimidated, or silenced.

This generation of Emure youth and students will not be passive spectators in their own future. We are committed to peace and we are also committed to justice.

We will continue to pursue what is right for Emure, through engagement, advocacy, and, where necessary, peaceful civil resistance.

We thank all those who have shown leadership at this critical time. To our community leaders and elders, we remain grateful for your wisdom. To our youths and students your voice matters, your strength is seen, and your unity is powerful.

Together, we will rebuild Emure.
Together, we will defend what is ours.
Together, we will light up our future.
