Lagos issues urgent flood warning, urging residents in Lekki, Ikorodu, and Ajegunle to relocate due to heavy rainfall and rising water levels.

Lagos flood warning has prompted urgent evacuation calls as the state battles heavy downpours and rising water levels in low-lying communities.

Following intense rainfall that drenched the city from Sunday into Monday, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, urged residents in high-risk areas to move to safer locations.

Wahab identified Ajegunle, Majidu in Ikorodu, and parts of Lekki as particularly vulnerable to flooding and advised residents to take precautionary action.

People in lowlands must relocate until the rains recede.

“Those around the Ajilete axis of Lagos that’s Ajegunle  they have to move. Those around the coastline of Ikorodu, Majidu, have to move,” Wahab stated during an interview with Channels Television.

The flood warning comes after viral videos showed flooded homes, submerged vehicles, and disrupted activity across the state.

Wahab added that while areas like Epe, Mushin, and Ikeja remain safe, coastal communities must prepare for worsening conditions, citing climate change and NiMet’s 2025 forecasts predicting increased rainfall.

Despite the challenges, the commissioner assured the public that the government is clearing drainage channels and enhancing flood control measures.
