Police Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi arrested with accomplices in Edo for robbery, extortion, and brutality. Command pledges zero tolerance for misconduct

Police Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi has been arrested alongside three civilian accomplices for allegedly robbing, terrorising, and extorting unsuspecting citizens in Benin City, Edo State.

The suspects, identified as Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis, and Enoma Agho, were apprehended on Friday, August 15, 2025, by operatives of the Edo State Police Command. A silver Toyota Yaris and other incriminating items were recovered from the group.

According to the Command’s Spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, the arrests followed a viral video in which a victim alleged he was abducted by policemen, dispossessed of his phone and belongings, and subjected to intimidation.

“Acting on this complaint and other related reports, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, directed that the perpetrators be identified and arrested without delay,” Yamu said in a Sunday statement.

The Command described the case as shameful and vowed that the suspects will face the full wrath of the law. CP Agbonika reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption, brutality, and unprofessional conduct, declaring there will be no hiding place for rogue officers.

He further issued a stern warning to all personnel:
Any policeman found engaging in misconduct, extortion, brutality, or corruption will be swiftly dismissed, arrested, and prosecuted in line with the law.”

The Command also urged members of the public particularly the victim featured in the viral video—to assist investigators with credible information to ensure justice is served.
