Kano State Government approves over ₦40.8bn for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 township roads across metropolitan LGAs, aiming to improve traffic flow and economic activity
The Kano State Government has awarded contracts worth over ₦40.8 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 major township roads across metropolitan areas of the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Garba Waiya, on Tuesday during a project inspection tour with Alhassan Yahaya, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The roads span eight strategic local government areas: Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo.
Among the key contracts approved are:
- Tudun-Yola–Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass – ₦1.896 billion
- Jafar–Madobi Road and Underpass – ₦1.323 billion
- Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road rehabilitation – ₦2.014 billion
- Muhammad Buhari Road rehabilitation – ₦4.108 billion
- Rijiyar Lemo Road – ₦494.367 million
- Kwanar Durba–Fammar–Kunau Kure erosion control – ₦205.983 million
- Airport Road rehabilitation – ₦5.956 billion
Waiya stated that these infrastructure developments aim to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and enhance the urban living experience in Kano’s growing metropolis.
Beyond the urban LGAs, the state is investing heavily in rural infrastructure, including:
- ₦13.3 billion for Rogo–Bari–Falgore–Mahangi roads in Rogo LGA
- ₦6.9 billion for Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Salkwayan–Dutse roads in Albasu LGA
These roads were prioritized for their economic and agricultural value, especially for the transportation of goods from farms to markets, Waiya noted.
According to the Commissioner, the strategic road projects will:
- Boost local commerce and logistics
- Improve access to healthcare and education
- Create short- and long-term employment opportunities
- Enhance road safety and driving conditions
