Nigeria Colombia partnership strengthens global ties as leaders sign agreements on aviation, trade, and culture to boost prosperity
Nigeria Colombia partnership has taken a major leap forward as President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed the country’s commitment to forging stronger international alliances with evolving global trends in trade, politics, and culture.

At the State House in Abuja on Monday, Tinubu received Colombia’s Vice President, Francia Márquez, alongside a delegation of senior officials and business leaders.
He assured that Nigeria would replicate aviation and consular agreements previously signed with Brazil, this time with Colombia, to expand bilateral cooperation.
The President emphasized that all agreements reached under Vice President Kashim Shettima’s supervision would receive immediate attention.
He encouraged Colombian investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and agricultural sectors, stressing that the nation’s young and skilled population offers a powerful advantage for growth.
Tinubu described the visit as a step toward shared prosperity:
“Our business opportunities with Colombia have already been enhanced. Particularly for Colombia, the agreement we entered with Brazil can easily be replicated in aviation, and our diplomatic relations can be enhanced.”
Vice President Shettima highlighted that the visit rekindles ancestral ties disrupted by slavery and colonialism. He noted the political and cultural similarities between the two nations will foster meaningful collaboration.
Vice President Márquez, the first black Vice President of Colombia, expressed joy in reconnecting with Africa. She stressed that bilateral relations would extend beyond trade to areas such as social justice, gender equality, and inclusivity.
She also underscored the need for direct flights between both nations to strengthen cultural and economic exchange.
Her words echoed a commitment to a partnership built on shared heritage and forward-looking cooperation.
“Our ancestors were taken away from Africa centuries ago. This visit marks the beginning of a long-lasting relationship with Nigeria,” she said.
