Delta State Bans Bushy Beards and Fake Nails for civil servants as new dress code demands neat, modest, and professional appearance at work
In a circular released on Thursday, the state government ordered all public servants to maintain neat, professional, and modest attire that reflects their rank in the civil service.

For male workers, bushy beards and certain traditional caps such as “Resource Control” and “Papas” caps are now prohibited.
Senior officers (GL 13 and above) must appear in complete suits, while officers in lower grades are expected to dress in trousers, shirts, and ties. Traditional attire is allowed only on Fridays and special occasions.
Female officers are also affected by the new rules. The circular bans artificially braided or dyed hair, long eyelashes, and artificial nails.
Civil servants must wear corporate gowns, trouser suits, or skirt suits that cover the knees, with sleeveless and revealing outfits explicitly outlawed.
Traditional wear is permitted on Fridays and special events, provided it is modest and not provocative.
The circular emphasizes that officers dressed inappropriately will be sent home to change or face disciplinary sanctions under the Public Service Rule No. 04314.
“This circular is intended to promote discipline in dressing culture among public servants. Heads of departments must enforce compliance and sanction defaulters without hesitation,” the Head of Service warned.

The Delta State government says the move is aimed at restoring professionalism and decency in its workforce, stressing that senior officers must lead by example in adhering to the revised dress code.
