NiMet weather forecast Nigeria has predicted widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across the country from Monday through Wednesday, with possible flash floods in certain areas.

In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) warned residents in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe states to brace for flash floods due to anticipated heavy downpours.

On Monday morning, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba.

This pattern will continue throughout the day, with the northern region experiencing more storms by the afternoon.

NiMet cautioned that flash floods may occur in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe, urging residents to remain alert.

By Tuesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals will give way to afternoon thunderstorms across Borno, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi.

Wednesday brings similar conditions, with scattered light rains expected early, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day.

For central Nigeria, Monday will open with a cloudy atmosphere and sunshine breaks, followed by moderate rainfall in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, FCT, and Benue.

Thunderstorms are forecast to return later in the day.

Tuesday and Wednesday will follow similar patterns, with intermittent sunshine and moderate rain expected in most central states, including Nasarawa.

Southern Nigeria will also experience cloudy skies and moderate rains, especially in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River from Monday morning.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, light to moderate rains will spread across Oyo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta, with continued showers expected later each day.

NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and warned farmers against applying fertiliser or pesticides before rain, to avoid nutrient leaching.

Residents are urged to secure loose items, disconnect electrical appliances, and steer clear of tall trees during storms.

Airline operators are strongly encouraged to obtain detailed weather reports from the agency for safer flight planning.

NiMet concluded by urging Nigerians to stay informed through its official website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
