SSANU AAUA strike

SSANU AAUA threatens indefinite strike over unpaid salaries and arrears, warning that convocation and resumption could be disrupted

SSANU AAUA strike threat has heightened tensions on campus as the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, warned of an indefinite industrial action over unpaid salaries, arrears and unmet demands.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter had already been on strike since August for similar reasons, leaving academic activities grounded.

SSANU said its action could further disrupt the scheduled convocation ceremony and students’ resumption if the state government failed to act.

Olutayo Ogungbeni, chairman of the Joint Action Committee in AAUA, said members had not been paid since July, lamenting that staff were owed more than two months’ salaries.

He accused the Ondo State government of reneging on its June 2025 promise to clear arrears and increase subvention to tertiary institutions.

“The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities of the AAUA may commence industrial action if all outstanding salaries are not paid.

The last salary collected was in July, and now we are in October,” he said.

Ogungbeni added that poor subvention had made it impossible to implement the 2024 National Minimum Wage, stressing that staff had endured hardship for too long.

In response, the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, assured that the government was addressing the matter and that it would soon be resolved.
