NAFDAC seals Chinese supermarkets

NAFDAC seals Chinese supermarkets and cosmetics shops in Abuja for selling unregistered, harmful products and food labelled only in Chinese

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control confirmed on Thursday that it had shut two Chinese supermarkets in the Jabi District, along Mike Akhigbe Way and Ebitu Ukiwe Street, following consumer complaints and surveillance operations.

According to the agency, the supermarkets were selling unregistered food items labelled exclusively in Chinese, contrary to NAFDAC’s labelling policy, which requires all products in the Nigerian market to carry English translations.

In a related crackdown, officials also sealed eight cosmetics shops in Wuse Market for distributing harmful and unregistered products.

The agency stated that such items pose risks to consumers and undermine regulatory standards.

NAFDAC explained that the enforcement drive is part of its renewed campaign to safeguard public health by ensuring only duly registered and properly labelled goods are sold.

The agency urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious products to its offices nationwide.

It reiterated its commitment to holding violators accountable in order to protect citizens from unsafe goods.
