FCT Police raid criminal hideouts in Abuja, targeting uncompleted buildings amid rising crime. CP Ajao urges compliance and profiles of site workers.

FCT Police raid criminal hideouts across Abuja following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, aimed at curbing criminal activity in uncompleted and abandoned buildings throughout the capital territory.

The order, which takes immediate effect, mandates all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to conduct sweeping patrols and targeted raids on suspected criminal hideouts — particularly in developing districts and satellite towns where reports of robbery, car theft, and kidnapping have surged.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the launch of intensified security operations, stating that criminals often exploit ongoing construction sites as operational bases.

FCT Police Raid Criminal Hideouts not only as a reaction to public concern but also as a proactive measure to secure vulnerable zones in the city.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, has directed all DPOs to immediately intensify patrols and carry out thorough raids on all uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts,” the statement read.

Developers have been given until the end of October 2025 to visit the nearest police divisions and register all artisans, labourers, and private security personnel residing at construction sites.

The police will now arrest any unauthorised individuals found loitering or staying on such sites after 6:00 p.m., a measure designed to deter squatters and reduce opportunities for organised crime to take root.

Adeh added, “Security is a shared responsibility. We call on residents, estate managers, and community leaders to report any suspicious persons or activities, and ensure that all domestic staff are properly profiled.”

She also reminded the public that scavenging — locally known as Baban Bola — remains banned within the FCT due to its frequent link to vandalism and petty theft. Residents are urged to alert police to any violations of the policy.

The CP stressed that the ongoing operations are part of broader efforts to restore public confidence and ensure safety across all six area councils in Abuja.

As the FCT Police Raid Criminal Hideouts, residents have expressed cautious optimism, noting that greater visibility of law enforcement is essential to reversing the rising tide of insecurity in the capital.
