EFCC hunts CBEX fraud suspects after clearing Ellie Bitar, as global law enforcement joins probe into major crypto fraud network

EFCC has continued hunting CBEX fraud suspects as investigations into the massive Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) scandal deepen, with one previously wanted individual, Ellie Bitar of CBEX Solutions Ltd., now officially cleared by the anti-graft agency.

In a fresh update released in Abuja, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed that Bitar’s name had been removed from the wanted list after new information emerged absolving him of involvement in the alleged fraud.

The Commission noted that the development followed a careful review of evidence and reflected its commitment to fairness, integrity, and factual investigation.

The EFCC disclosed that eight individuals remain on its wanted list for their roles in the alleged multi-million-naira crypto scam.

Those still under pursuit include Seyi Oloyede, Emmanuel Uko, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Adefowora Abiodun Olanipekun, Johnson Okiroh Ofienolu, Israel Mbalika, Joseph Michiro Kabera, and Serah Michiro.

The Commission stated that it is making steady progress in tracing the suspects, with international law enforcement agencies collaborating to track and arrest them across various jurisdictions.

An EFCC source described the ongoing efforts as part of a global crackdown on financial crime networks exploiting digital currencies to defraud investors.

“The EFCC will not relent in ensuring that everyone connected to the fraudulent CBEX scheme is brought to justice,” the source said, reaffirming the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on financial crimes.

Analysts say the CBEX case represents one of Nigeria’s most complex crypto fraud investigations in recent times, with far-reaching implications for digital financial regulation.

The EFCC’s actions, they argue, demonstrate a renewed determination to protect investors and restore confidence in the country’s financial integrity.

As global cooperation intensifies, the Commission is confident that the wanted suspects will soon be apprehended and prosecuted, sending a strong message that cross-border financial crimes will not go unpunished.
