A mum has been murdered over ‘Thank you’; a tragic encounter outside a Dallas retail park has ended in the senseless killing of a 41-year-old mother, after what began as a dispute over a lack of gratitude.

Cecilia Simpson, 41, was fatally shot outside a PetSmart near Five Below in Dallas, Texas, after asking a stranger why she hadn’t said “thank you” when Simpson held the door open for her.
According to police reports, the suspect, 22-year-old Keona Zachyua Hampton, responded with hostility when confronted by Simpson outside the store, leading to a verbal altercation that turned deadly.
The affidavit reveals that Simpson and her 20-year-old daughter had exited the shop when Hampton passed through the door Simpson was holding.
After Simpson called out Hampton for her rudeness, the situation escalated rapidly.
Hampton reportedly told police she was “just trying to get Cecilia Simpson away from her,” before allegedly opening fire. Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hampton has since been arrested and booked into Dallas County Jail on a murder charge.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage online, with many calling attention to what commentators have dubbed a dangerous culture of “disrespect and instant retaliation.”
On social media, users expressed disbelief that such a trivial issue could lead to deadly violence, with one user noting: “Disrespect culture plus no impulse control is a deadly combo.”

Others highlighted the disproportionate toll such incidents take within Black communities, urging community leaders to condemn the act.
