Dapo Abiodun receives a stern seven-day ultimatum under the Freedom of Information Act to reveal detailed Abeokuta road construction records from 2019 to 2025, sparking urgent calls for accountability in Ogun State governance

Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, has been slapped with a bold seven-day ultimatum to unveil long-hidden details of road construction projects in Abeokuta since 2019.

The request, made by AbdulBasit Abolade Shuaib of RRA Solicitors & Advocates, was addressed to the governor on Monday, October 14, 2025.

In his letter, the lawyer sought detailed records of all road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance projects carried out in the state capital since the governor assumed office.

He specifically requested the names and locations of projects, length of roads constructed, contract types, names of contractors, contract sums, funding sources, and current project statuses.

The lawyer also asked for information on whether projects were completed, ongoing or abandoned.

According to the FOI Act 2011, public institutions are required to respond to such requests within seven days.

Shuaib reminded the governor that transparency and accountability are vital to public trust, urging the administration to demonstrate its commitment to open governance.

@freelanews These are what Dapo Abiodun is planning to leave behind for Abeokuta people after over seven years in government. This is Mokola, a once lively town, turned into a ghost town due to maladministration. From Mokola through Ilugun to Ake is nothing to write home about. Look at what Elega is now looking like. May Dapo Abiodun never happen to any consistency now or in future. Election has consequences. #fyp #foryou ♬ original sound – bashorun media

He further noted that if any part of the requested information is exempted by law, the government must cite the relevant provisions and still release non-exempted data in line with Section 4(b) of the Act.

“The people deserve clarity on how public funds are being used for infrastructure development,” the lawyer wrote, stressing that the request is a civic effort to enhance openness and accountability.

The letter places Governor Abiodun’s administration under renewed scrutiny as residents of Abeokuta continue to question the pace and transparency of road works across the city.

Observers say the move could set a new tone for civic engagement in Ogun State, particularly in demanding lawful access to public information ahead of the governor’s alleged plans to contest for Ogun East senatorial district in 2027 elections immediately after leaving office.
