FAAN targets full ISO certification by december 2025

FAAN ISO Certification nears completion as authority aims for full compliance by December 2025, reinforcing quality, safety and environmental standards

FAAN ISO Certification efforts have reached a critical milestone, with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria aiming to achieve full compliance by December 2025.

This was disclosed in Lagos on Tuesday through a statement by the authority’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire.

The announcement followed the formal unveiling of FAAN’s ISO Policy — a framework designed to drive quality service delivery, operational safety, and environmental responsibility across all Nigerian airports under its management.

The Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, represented at the event by Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr Luqman Emiola, said the ISO Policy integrates two major international standards into a unified system — ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS).

“FAAN has achieved about 70% of the certification process. External auditors will arrive in November to assess our systems and close the gaps identified,” she said.

“We are targeting full ISO certification by December 2025.”

The ISO Policy is grounded in the core operational principle that “if it is not documented, it is considered not done.” Kuku noted that the framework will guide internal audits across FAAN’s directorates and ensure all activities align with best-in-class service, safety, and environmental practices.

The initiative signals a bold shift towards institutionalising international standards within Nigeria’s aviation sector — a move that, if successful, positions FAAN as a regional benchmark for excellence.

Also speaking at the unveiling, FAAN’s Director of Special Duties, Mrs Obiageli Orah, explained that the upcoming audit process is designed to assess FAAN’s commitment to quality assurance, ethical business conduct, environmental sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

She emphasised that ISO certification goes beyond technical compliance, serving as a public declaration of FAAN’s values in delivering aviation services that are safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible.

Kuku reaffirmed the authority’s pledge to not only safeguard Nigeria’s airport infrastructure but also to uphold the welfare of staff and support host communities.

As preparations intensify for the arrival of external auditors in November, FAAN ISO Certification stands as a defining step in the authority’s journey toward transforming Nigerian airport operations to meet global standards.
