Ekiti PDP Progressives slam Ayodele Fayose for declaring the party dead, accusing him of frustration after losing control of its structure

The Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party Progressives have berated former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, for declaring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dead in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by its chieftain, Gani Salau, the group urged residents to disregard Fayose’s comments, describing him as a “conditional member” who would soon be expelled from the party.

Responding to Fayose’s remark that the PDP was moribund in Ekiti, Salau said the former governor was merely expressing frustration after losing control of the party’s structure.

“He is bitter, having realised that the party is no longer in his custody as before, when he allegedly used it as a bargain to siphon from members,” Salau said.

The PDP Progressives maintained that the party had been repositioned ahead of the 2026 governorship election, adding that its primary would hold on Saturday to elect a standard-bearer.

Fayose, while speaking to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Monday, had declared the PDP “dead” in the state, insisting that the party’s four governorship aspirants were “fooling themselves.”

“Where is the PDP in Ekiti? Where are the members? Where are PDP meetings being held? The party is totally moribund,” Fayose had said.

He also pledged support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the governor remained the people’s preferred choice until 2030.

But the Ekiti PDP Progressives described the comments as reckless and ungrateful, noting that the PDP was the platform that made Fayose governor twice.

“He should apologise to God for disparaging the party that lifted him and gave his life meaning,” Salau added.

The group further accused Fayose of becoming “an executive beggar” in Oyebanji’s government in exchange for monthly stipends, describing him as “a political orphan without reputation.”

Salau also recalled how former Governor Kayode Fayemi once described Fayose as “ìrú wa, ògìrì wa” (an all-comer), saying the ex-governor’s silence at the time reflected his loss of dignity and influence.
