The project, according to the Office of Rural Development, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to expand infrastructure and uplift living standards across rural and semi-urban communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Nurudeen Agbaje, explained that the construction would be completed within six months.

He added that the road would be fitted with solar-powered streetlights to enhance security and sustainability while improving nighttime visibility.

Agbaje appealed to residents for cooperation with contractors to ensure the project’s smooth and timely completion.

He emphasised that the initiative aligned with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which focuses on transforming rural settlements into thriving semi-urban centres.

“This administration is committed to ensuring that every part of Lagos enjoys the dividends of democracy,” he said. “The construction of Alhaji Jimoh Drive and Baptist Church Street will not only ease movement but also stimulate economic growth in Ijegun and its environs.”

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, hailed the initiative as proof of Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s sincerity and capacity to deliver on his promises to grassroots communities.

She noted that the project underscored the government’s determination to achieve equitable development across all parts of the state, ensuring that rural residents benefit directly from Lagos’ growth.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee of Iba LCDA, Thomas Agbogunleri, expressed gratitude to the governor and his team for prioritising local development.

He assured the government of the community’s full cooperation, pledging support to guarantee the project’s successful completion.
