Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro empowers girls with hygiene drive, donating pads and teaching teens about menstrual hygiene and confidence

Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro has reaffirmed its commitment to community service as it empowered young girls with vital lessons on personal hygiene and menstrual care.

It is often said that good personal hygiene is not just about looking clean but about respecting oneself and showing confidence every day.

Reflecting this belief, members of the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro visited Girls Senior Secondary Grammar School, Ikoyi, Lagos, on November 11, 2025, for a project tagged Pad A Girl.

The initiative, sponsored by the club, aimed to create awareness among teenage girls on how their bodies change with age and how to embrace these changes with confidence and protection.

Not less than 1,000 people benefitted from the outreach, including 955 students and several teaching and non-teaching staff.

Each student received a two-month supply of sanitary pads alongside educational materials.

Following the donations, the Rotarians conducted educational sessions in four classrooms, teaching the students practical ways to manage their menstrual cycles and maintain proper hygiene.

Speaking during the event, the Club’s President, Rotarian Alex Chukwu, said the exercise was designed to educate as well as support.

“We’re here not only to give them pads, but also to educate them about female hygiene. We also gave them a book titled Monthly Flower, which provides a comprehensive guide to puberty for teens and young girls,” Chukwu said.

He further noted that the Pad A Girl project is part of a series of interventions the club has launched since the beginning of the year, including scholarship programmes for students in its Interact schools.

The Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro continues to demonstrate that empowering young people through education and hygiene awareness builds a stronger, healthier society; one confident girl at a time.
