Nigerian man deported from India for visa overstay and alleged drug links after Hyderabad police interrogation confirmed he lacked valid documents

Nigerian man has been deported from India after authorities in Hyderabad confirmed he overstayed his visa and was allegedly linked to drug peddling activities in the city.

Indian media, including The Times of India, reported on Wednesday that the man, identified as Onyeukwu Victor, was removed from the country following an investigation by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing.

Victor originally travelled to India in 2021 on a student visa but remained in the country after it expired in 2024.

Police said he had been in contact with drug suppliers and had delivered substances across Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

According to officials, he was detained while moving around the upscale Banjara Hills area. Although no drugs were found in his possession during the arrest, police said he failed to provide valid documents or a credible explanation for his continued stay in the country.

“Upon thorough inquiry, it was confirmed that he did not hold a valid visa and had been overstaying,” the police report stated, describing the situation as a serious breach of immigration rules.

Authorities said his deportation forms part of a broader push to curb illegal stays and clamp down on narcotics activity in the city, which has seen a rise in targeted enforcement in recent months.
