Why Senator Mudashiru Husain Is the most qualified APC flagbearer for Osun 2026

Senator Mudashiru Husain emerges as leading Osun APC candidate, offering experience, unity, and progressive leadership ahead of 2026 primary

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) moves towards its redefining moment – gubernatorial primary in less than 20 days, the choice of its 2026 gubernatorial candidate for Osun State is more than strategically critical; as it could define the party’s future in the state.

In this moment, Senator Mudashiru Oyetunde Husain emerges not only as a contender, but as the most qualified and credible progressive torchbearer to carry the APC’s banner.

The reasons for the above claim is not far-fetched, but because of his unique standing amongst all the APC aspirants. Some of which are well identified below:

1. Deeply Rooted Progressive Loyalty

Senator Husain’s political pedigree is anchored in the progressive values right from his Lagos days under the tutelage of the progressive compass, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; to his entry into Osun politics with the sole aim of returning the state to the progressive fold.

In his public declarations throughout his consultation tours for 2026 gubernatorial election, Husain has emphasized that he is “politically rooted to win” in Osun, speaking directly to both ideological conviction and party strategy.

Having sacrificed personal ambition in the past, particularly giving up his ticket in 2014 to strengthen the party; he showed that loyalty is not just a word for him, but a guiding principle.

His loyalty has now positioned him as a bridge between the party’s founding progressive ideals and a future defined by renewal.

2. Unmatched Experience Across Governance Levels

Husain brings to the table a rare blend of legislative, administrative, and strategic governance experience.

He has served in the House of Representatives while in Lagos State for eight years, represented Osun West in the Senate, and, as a Federal Commissioner in the National Population Commission (NPC).

This clearly shows he has not only established grassroots footing, but also gained national-level bureaucratic experience need that this time of aligning Osun with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This multifaceted track record means he has tested his leadership in different political contexts, ranging from lawmaking, to policy implementation, to national census operations; thereby giving him a holistic understanding of governance that few other aspirants can claim.

3. A Unifier at a Time of Strain

As normal in every electoral cycle, Osun APC is entering what could be its most fragile moment in recent history.

Factional tensions are simmering, and unity is not just a political slogan, but an existential necessity.

Husain has consistently called for fairness and inclusivity in the primary process, urging party leaders to allow every contender to showcase their strengths, while not downplaying the role of strong leadership at the level of party’s hierarchy.

His consistent stance is not only tactical, but also rooted in his belief that a united APC is the only way to reclaim Osun in 2026.

4. Credible Champion Aligned with Tinubu’s Vision

Senator Husain has also made clear his alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, with his emphasis on people-centered governance, reform, and the restoration of progressive ideals in state leadership.

By implication, he positions himself not as an opportunist, but as a trusted agent of perpetuating the national progressive project.

This alone has always reinforced his nostalgia as a candidate who has been of Tinubu’s inner circle who can really be trusted to stand as unifying figure and steer Osun back towards sustainable progressive development.

5. Principle Over Politics

Integrity has always been the watchword of Husain’s campaign. He has consistently called for a level playing field among aspirants, while always insisting that the party’s interest must supersede personal ambition.

His record is clean, his message is consistent, and his ambition is rooted in service – qualities that are increasingly rare in today’s political landscape.

Conclusion

With the APC’s primary imminent, the party must decide not just who can win, but who can unify, who can govern, and who best represents the progressive lineage ushered in by President Tinubu.

Senator Mudashiru Husain checks all those boxes: deeply ideological, broadly experienced, unifying in style, and principled in intent.

For a party seeking to reclaim Osun and deliver on the promise of progressive governance, he is not just a choice, but perhaps the only choice poised for both victory and long-term positive impact.

It’s time for APC to rally behind the most reliable torchbearer of the progressive tendency.
