Kwara police and vigilante operatives search for 10 residents abducted by suspected herders in Isapa community, Obbo-Ile Village

The Kwara State Police Command has deployed operatives alongside local vigilante groups in an ongoing search for 10 residents abducted by suspected herders in Isapa community, Obbo-Ile Village, on Monday.

Police Public Relations Officer Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the command received information about sporadic gunfire at approximately 18:30 hours on 24 November 2025 and immediately mobilised patrol vehicles and tactical teams to the area.

“Preliminary findings revealed that at around 18:05 hours, a group of armed men, suspected to be herders, invaded the village and opened fire indiscriminately. A woman sustained a gunshot wound to her leg; she has since been treated and discharged. Ten persons were abducted during the attack,” the statement said.

The abducted include a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers, several young children, and other adults.

Their confirmed identities are: Talatu Kabiru (20, female), Magaji (6, male), Kande (5, female), Hadiza (10, female), Mariam (6, female), Saima (5, female), Habibat Yusufu, Fatima Yusufu (housewives), pregnant woman Fatima Yusufu, Sarah Sunday (22, female), Lami Fidelis (23, female, nursing mother), and Haja Na Allah (nursing mother).

Kwara Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, visited Isapa for an on-the-spot assessment, meeting traditional rulers, including the Onisapa of Isapa Land, Oba Gbenga Adeyeye, and the Olokesa of Okesa Land, Oba Olu Fagbamila Raphael Olusegun, alongside local and youth leaders.

CP Ojo assured residents of intensified efforts to rescue the victims and restore security.

Reports indicate that more than 20 armed invaders stormed the community with a large herd of cattle, firing shots indiscriminately and leaving bullet holes in walls and doors.

Spent AK-47 shells were scattered across the area after the attackers fled.

The incident follows a gunmen attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch in Eruku, the same Local Government Area, about a week ago, where 38 church members were abducted and two others killed.
