FirstPower announces a planned power outage in Anambra as TCN installs a 60MVA transformer at the Onitsha station

FirstPower Electricity Distribution Limited on Friday announced a planned power outage across several parts of Anambra State on Sunday to allow Transmission Company of Nigeria engineers install a new 60MVA transformer at the Onitsha Transmission Station.

The company said the outage, scheduled from 10am to 1pm on 7 December, would create a safe working environment for TCN crew members who are expected to bring in the TR13 60MVA transformer and reconfigure outgoing feeders.

The operation will require the temporary shutdown of the MOBITRA 40MVA and 45MVA transformers, as well as the 1T1 100MVA 132/33KV unit at the station.

In its statement, FirstPower listed Army Barracks, Awada, Obosi, Umunya, Juddy Bolema, Nnewi Oba, Nnewi Industrial, Ossomala, 3-3, Niccus and Ogidi among the areas to be affected.

Customers supplied by the Nwaziki 11KV and Woliwo 11KV feeders will also experience disruption during the three-hour exercise.

The company apologised for the inconvenience and said the work formed part of wider efforts to boost the stability and reliability of electricity supply.

It added that the upgrade was a necessary step in improving distribution infrastructure in the commercial hub.

The announcement comes barely a week after the Anambra State Government, through the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, issued an interim licence to FirstPower as an electricity distributor in the state.

During the presentation, Commission Chairman Professor Frank Okafor said the licence was part of the government’s commitment to building a dependable power system and supporting Anambra’s ambition to become a preferred investment destination.

He stressed that stable electricity must no longer be regarded as a luxury in the state.
