Ward 12 APC leaders in Sagamu, Ogun State, affirm Senator Gbenga Daniel’s (OGD) membership in a viral video, questioning the validity of his rumored suspension from Ward 4 and emphasizing he registered in their ward

In a viral video circulating on social media, leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 12 (Isote), Sagamu Local Government Area, has publicly reaffirmed that Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), former Governor of Ogun State and current representative of Ogun East Senatorial District, remains a bona fide member of the party.

Olusegun Olusiji, Chairman of Ward 12 APC, stated in the video: “We were only hearing rumours of your suspension in Ward 4 and I’m yet to hear of any order suspending you in our own Ward 12. When did OGD collect membership card in Ward 4?”

The affirmation directly challenges the ongoing claim by APC executives in Ward 4 (Sabo), Sagamu, who insist that Daniel’s indefinite suspension for alleged anti-party activities; initiated in August 2025 and ratified by the state chapter, remains in effect.

Otunba Daniel, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in February 2021, officially registered and collected his membership card in Isote Ward 12, accompanied by several APC governors at the time, including the incumbent Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The controversy escalated in August 2025 when Ward 4 executives claimed to have suspended Senator Daniel over accusations of anti-party conduct, including alleged actions during recent elections and election petition tribunals that were deemed hostile to APC interests.

However, the former governor’s supporters, including leaders from Ogun East, have repeatedly dismissed the action as invalid, arguing that a suspension cannot originate from a ward where he is not registered.

In November 2025, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) intervened, stating that it had not deliberated on the matter and affirming Otunba Daniel as a “bona fide member” pending investigation.

Political observers link the rift to deepening tensions between Otunba Daniel and the incumbent Governor Abiodun, with speculations of jockeying for influence ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly the Ogun East senatorial ticket.

The former governor has denied any defection plans, repeatedly affirming his loyalty to the APC.

Sources close to the senator welcomed the Ward 12 affirmation as validation of his legitimate membership.

The APC national leadership has been urged by various stakeholders to expedite resolution to foster party unity in Ogun State.
