Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf pledged on Wednesday that his administration will no longer allow public servants to experience delays in receiving their lawful benefits.

The announcement was made at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, Kano, during the disbursement of severance gratuities, accommodation, and leave allowances to 1,371 former councillors who served between 2021 and 2024.

The event marked the final tranche of the payment, with a total of ₦8.26bn distributed to beneficiaries. Several former councillors received instant payment alerts ranging from ₦5m to ₦6m, highlighting the administration’s commitment to timely settlements.

“Our goal is simple: never again should those who serve the public be left in uncertainty about what is rightfully theirs,” Governor Yusuf said.

He explained that reforms have been introduced to prevent future accumulation of unpaid entitlements, describing the exercise as a key step in restoring public trust.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that settling the backlog of benefits would boost morale among serving officers and strengthen confidence in state institutions.

He urged residents to support efforts to build a fairer and more prosperous Kano, where the contributions of public servants are recognised and rewarded.
