Agege youth solar empowerment programme equips young people with practical renewable energy skills for jobs, entrepreneurship, and grassroots development

The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Abdulganiu Vinod Obasa, launched a Solar Electrification Training and Renewable Energy Value Chain Development Programme in Agege, Lagos State, reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development.

The programme, which will run until Friday, targets young people with practical, market-driven skills in renewable energy a sector increasingly critical amid Nigeria’s power challenges and the global transition to clean energy.

The first batch of 25 participants is undergoing intensive training blending classroom instruction with hands-on practical sessions.

The curriculum covers solar power fundamentals, panel installation, system maintenance, safety procedures, and an introduction to the renewable energy value chain.

Facilitators aim to equip participants with employable skills for self-employment, entrepreneurship, and job opportunities within the renewable energy ecosystem.

Hon. Obasa is set to personally present certificates to all participants on Friday, recognising their newly acquired skills and enhancing their credibility in the sector.

Community stakeholders praised the chairman’s direct involvement, describing it as motivating and a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to human capital development at the grassroots.

To extend the programme’s impact, a second batch of trainees is scheduled from February 16 to February 20, reflecting the local government’s long-term strategy to develop a pool of skilled youths capable of supporting local energy needs and contributing to economic growth.

Residents and observers have commended the initiative for prioritising skills acquisition over short-term palliatives, describing it as a sustainable solution to youth unemployment and economic vulnerability.

By investing in renewable energy training, the Obasa-led administration is equipping Agege youths to provide clean and reliable power for households, small businesses, and institutions.
