The Emir of Ilorin has announced the death of the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih OON, who passed away at the age of 75
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has announced the death of the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih OON.

In a condolence message issued on Monday through his Press Secretary, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir confirmed that the respected Islamic cleric passed away early on Monday at the age of 75.
Expressing total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, the Emir said the news of the Imam’s passing was received with deep sorrow across the Ilorin Emirate.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un, it is with total submission to the will of Almighty Allah that we receive the news of the demise of the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih Onida OON,” the Emir stated.
Reflecting on the life and character of the late cleric, the Emir described him as a man of exceptional qualities, noting his intelligence, honesty, loyalty, dedication and tolerance.
He said the Imam’s death has left a profound sense of loss within the emirate.
“He was a cleric with unique features and outstanding virtues. His demise has caused us great sadness beyond measure. We reflect on his lifetime as a man of great honour and piety,” the Emir added.
The Emir also highlighted the late Chief Imam’s contributions to unity within the Muslim community and his efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths in Kwara State.
According to him, Imam Solih was widely respected for his wisdom and commitment to inter-religious harmony.
Announcing burial arrangements, the Emir said the janazah prayer would be held at the Palace Square of the Emir of Ilorin by 4:00 pm on Monday, January 19, 2026.
He concluded by praying for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased, asking that his sins be forgiven, his good deeds accepted and that he be granted admission into Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih served as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin for more than four decades, having assumed the position in 1983.

In addition to his role as Chief Imam, he was the Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Ulama, Alfas and Imams.
