Ooni of Ife issues public notice to Akekaka TV over AI-generated offensive images, demanding removal within 24 hours or face legal action

The Ooni of Ife has issued a public notice and final warning to Adeyinka Olasunkanmi, operator of the Facebook page Akekaka TV and publicly linked to Ajisebi Oyo TV Station, over the circulation of AI-generated images deemed obscene and defamatory.

The statement, signed by Prince Jay Ile Oodua, accused Akekaka TV of producing content that constitutes cyberbullying, cyberstalking, identity abuse, and reputational harm against the monarch, describing the material as “deeply offensive, culturally sacrilegious, and morally reprehensible.”

“This is not a matter of online banter or freedom of expression,” the notice read. “It is a deliberate attempt to degrade a sacred traditional institution and one of Africa’s most revered monarchs using digital manipulation and false representation. That is unacceptable, dangerous, and legally consequential.”

The notice also highlighted the operator’s visible associations with the Alaafin of Oyo, stressing that these connections “raise serious questions and cast an unfortunate shadow” over the traditional institution.

The statement called on the Alaafin to publicly dissociate himself from individuals and platforms engaged in content that debases Yoruba heritage and royal institutions.

Akekaka TV was given 24 hours from the publication of the statement to remove all AI-generated, manipulated, or defamatory images of the Ooni of Ife across all platforms.

The notice warned that failure to comply would be considered willful continuation of cyber harassment, prompting legal action against the individual and all collaborators or amplifiers of the offensive content.

Prince Jay Ile Oodua emphasised that documentation and digital trails of the alleged offences already exist and stressed the seriousness of accountability under Nigerian and international cybercrime laws.
