Kwara 2026 budget approved at ₦656.5bn as Assembly raises spending to fund infrastructure and align with economic priorities
The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved a revised ₦656.5 billion Kwara 2026 budget, increasing the original proposal submitted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq by ₦10.5 billion.

The Appropriation Bill was passed on Friday after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during plenary.
Announcing the decision, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, said the upward review followed detailed scrutiny of the estimates to ensure fiscal realism, effective implementation, and tangible benefits for residents of the state.
He explained that recurrent expenditure was increased to over ₦409.6 billion, reflecting an adjustment of about ₦10.5 billion from the executive proposal, to accommodate critical governance and service delivery obligations.
Capital expenditure was also raised to ₦271 billion from ₦254 billion, a move the Speaker described as essential to accelerate infrastructure development and fast-track priority projects across the state.
Danladi Salihu said debt servicing for the 2026 fiscal year now stands at ₦14.2 billion, slightly above earlier projections, following a careful reassessment of existing obligations.
The Speaker stressed that the House acted within constitutional provisions to approve a realistic and implementable budget aligned with the state’s development agenda.
He added that the legislature would maintain strict oversight to ensure accountability and prudent use of public funds.
