Benjamin Sesko scores in stoppage time as Manchester United beat Fulham 3-2, keeping Michael Carrick’s perfect start as interim manager intact

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick extended his perfect start as Benjamin Sesko’s stoppage-time goal secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Casemiro gave United an early lead with a towering header from a Bruno Fernandes free-kick, and Matheus Cunha doubled the advantage after the interval following a clever pass from Casemiro.

Fulham fought back late in the game, with Raul Jimenez converting a penalty in the 85th minute before Kevin curled a sublime strike to level in stoppage time.

However, Sesko, who has now scored four goals in his last four matches, drilled a 12-yard finish from Fernandes’ pass in the 100th minute to snatch all three points for the Red Devils.

Carrick’s side remain unbeaten in their last seven league matches, moving up to fourth place in the Premier League as they push for next season’s Champions League qualification.

The victory comes after surprise wins over Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal, showcasing Carrick’s immediate impact as interim manager.

The match was played in front of a tense crowd, as hundreds of Manchester United fans staged a protest outside Old Trafford before kickoff against the Glazer family’s ownership.

Some supporters, wearing clown masks, chanted and held banners condemning club management while flares filled Sir Matt Busby Way.

Tactically, Carrick made a decisive call by starting Cunha in place of the injured Patrick Dorgu, a move that proved crucial for the second goal.

United were briefly unsettled after Fulham’s Cuenca had a goal disallowed for offside and Maguire conceded the penalty leading to Jimenez’s strike.

Despite late drama, Manchester United displayed resilience, responding immediately to Kevin’s equaliser and demonstrating the fighting spirit Carrick has instilled in the team.

The win strengthens calls for the former United midfielder to be considered for the managerial role permanently if he maintains his current form.
