Enugu Air takes delivery of an Embraer 195 as the state carrier expands under XEJET, boosting regional connectivity from Enugu

Enugu Air, the state-owned carrier operated by XEJET, has taken delivery of an Enugu Air Embraer 195 as part of its fleet expansion aimed at improving safe and reliable air services from the South East.

The development was announced in a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of XEJET, Emmanuel Iza, who credited the aviation vision of the Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, with strengthening regional connectivity and economic growth.

Emmanuel Iza said the aircraft acquisition marked further progress in the airline’s expansion plans and signalled the introduction of additional services in the coming weeks.

Enugu Air is owned by the Enugu State Government and was launched in July 2025 to boost regional air connectivity, economic activity and local aviation development. The airline operates from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport.

At launch on 7 July 2025, Enugu Air commenced commercial operations with three Embraer 170 aircraft, each configured to carry about 76 passengers.

Rather than operating independently at inception, Enugu Air entered an operational partnership with XEJET, which holds the regulatory approvals to operate flights on its behalf while the state carrier completes its Air Operator Certificate process.

Under the arrangement, XEJET is authorised to run scheduled domestic flights for Enugu Air, while ticket bookings are processed through XEJET’s platform.

The addition of the Embraer 195 is expected to enhance capacity and service reliability as the airline consolidates its presence in Nigeria’s domestic aviation market.
