Lagos State clarifies ₦4.2bn 2026 Deputy Governor budget is for Round House reconstruction, not office furniture, urging stakeholders to verify official documents

The Lagos State Government has clarified that over ₦4 billion allocated to the Office of the Deputy Governor in the 2026 budget is primarily for the reconstruction of the historic Round House complex, not for office furniture and microphones as widely reported.

The Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget stated that the total capital allocation for the office stands at ₦4,247,816,006, with ₦4,077,816,006 designated for the comprehensive renovation of the six-storey Round House, which houses more than 50 offices.

The reconstruction will include structural upgrades, retrofitting works, and the installation of alternative energy infrastructure to modernise the facility and enhance operational efficiency.

The government explained that the remaining ₦170 million is earmarked for office equipment, furniture, fittings, and other capital items.

Officials described reports suggesting the full allocation was for furniture and microphones as a misinterpretation of the approved capital provisions.

To promote transparency, the ministry said screenshots of the relevant budget master sheet have been made publicly available for review.

It also urged stakeholders and media organisations to seek clarification through official channels before publication.
