Lagos police dismiss officers linked to Owode-Onirin trader killings as investigation nears completion, Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh assures justice

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, on Thursday confirmed that the Lagos police dismiss officers involved in the alleged killing of seven traders at Owode-Onirin, describing the move as part of efforts to ensure justice for the victims.

Jimoh disclosed the development while speaking with reporters at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ikeja, saying four officers had been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force following investigations into the incident.

The commissioner explained that the dismissed officers were allegedly brought from Nasarawa State by the principal suspect identified as Ariori and were linked to the unlawful killings that occurred during the violent episode.

According to Jimoh, the investigation into the tragedy is at an advanced stage and has been guided by forensic evidence, including ballistic and autopsy reports.

“This matter has not been swept under the carpet, and we want the public and all the families of the victims to know that nobody can stop us from ensuring that justice is done,” Jimoh said.

“We will leave no stone unturned and will not be intimidated by anyone. All suspects will be prosecuted, and the courts remain open to hear every case.”

The commissioner stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains firmly committed to its constitutional responsibility of maintaining law and order, adding that no individual or group would be allowed to obstruct the course of justice.

Jimoh revealed that about 98 per cent of the investigation had been completed, noting that authorities would continue to pursue every lead to ensure accountability.

He also urged residents and traders in Lagos to remain vigilant, assuring the public that the police were determined to safeguard lives and property across the state.

The incident occurred in August 2025 during a clash between suspected land grabbers and traders in the Owode-Onirin area of Lagos State, an episode that triggered public outrage and renewed calls for accountability within the security services.

Police authorities say the prosecution of those involved will proceed once the investigation is fully concluded, as part of what officials described as a resolute effort to uphold justice and restore public confidence.
