The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, announced the initiative in Lagos, stating that the Lagos Police anti-crime patrol is aimed at curbing armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping and other criminal activities along the busy highway.
CP Jimoh said the operation would ensure continuous police visibility, rapid response capability and enhanced protection for commuters and commercial traffic using the route.
“The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road is a major commercial and transit artery. We are determined to reduce crime and provide assurance to motorists, traders and residents along the corridor,” CP Jimoh said.
The commissioner explained that the new patrol teams would complement existing security arrangements already in place since December 2025, including multiple patrol vehicles stationed strategically along the road.
The move follows rising concerns from road users and local communities over incidents of highway crime, prompting calls for stronger and more proactive policing measures.
According to the command, the patrol teams are fully equipped to respond swiftly to distress calls and will coordinate closely with local police formations to sustain high-level surveillance and intervention capacity.
