Ogun State government plans to relocate illegal motor parks and street traders at Sango Tollgate to curb frequent road accidents at the border with Lagos

The Ogun State government has announced plans to relocate illegal motor parks and eradicate street trading at Sango Tollgate to reduce frequent road accidents.

Speaking on Friday, Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, led officials from the Ministry, the State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), and Ado-Odo Ota Local Government to assess the area and implement a lasting solution.

Oresanya stated that barricades would be constructed on both sides of the tollgate to prevent interstate buses and street traders from returning to the unsafe location.

He also confirmed that a total clean-up would be carried out, with environmental marshals ensuring compliance.

“I have the directive of the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who is concerned about the loss of lives and tasked us to find a permanent solution,” Oresanya said.

The relocation exercise will move the illegal motor parks and street traders, which have operated at Sango Tollgate for over 25 years, to more organized locations away from the border area.

The government emphasized that the operation would start in a few days.

The action follows recent accidents at the tollgate, including last Friday when three people were killed and six others injured, and a previous incident involving a trailer tanker that resulted in seven fatalities.
