Chike cult attack Lagos shooting leaves Delta teenager dead after suspected cultists opened fire in Ikotun, Lagos during a cash withdrawal trip

A teenager identified simply as Chike, who reportedly travelled from Delta State to Lagos to visit a friend, has been shot dead by suspected cultists in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has sparked renewed concern over rising cult-related violence in parts of Lagos, as residents continue to demand stronger security intervention.

According to eyewitness accounts, Chike had stepped out with his friend to withdraw cash from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator when they were confronted by a group of young men.

The confrontation allegedly escalated rapidly after a brief exchange between both parties.

An eyewitness, Abiodun, said the attackers approached the duo, spoke briefly with them, and then opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.

He added that the victim died instantly, while his friend escaped unharmed.

“He was coming back from a PoS outlet where he went to withdraw money with his friend when some boys stopped them. They spoke for a short moment, and one of them suddenly shot him,” Abiodun said.

The killing caused panic in the Ikotun area, with residents reportedly rushing to safety following the sound of gunfire.

Photographs obtained from the scene showed the teenager lying lifeless shortly after the attack, underscoring the horrific nature of the incident.

An anti-cultism advocacy platform later suggested that the attack may have been cult-related, alleging that the assailants attempted to rob the victim before opening fire.

The platform also claimed the deceased, known locally as “Ejanla,” had travelled from Asaba in Delta State prior to the incident.

According to the post, the attackers allegedly demanded valuables from the victim before shooting him despite compliance.

It further claimed the assailants fled immediately after the attack.

The Lagos State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement at the time of filing this report, as attempts to reach its spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful.

The incident adds to growing concerns over violent street crime and cult-related clashes in Lagos, particularly in densely populated suburban communities.
