In a statement on Friday, Charles Aniagwu urged security agencies to investigate the incidents and ensure perpetrators face justice.

“We are calling on the police and other security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of these heinous acts and bring them to justice. No individual or group should hide under the guise of a festival to commit criminal acts,” he said.

Aniagwu assured residents that the state government remains committed to protecting the rights and safety of all citizens, particularly women and vulnerable groups.

He also urged festival organisers and community leaders to implement adequate security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence, warning that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

Earlier reports highlighted circulating videos allegedly showing women being assaulted during the Ozoro Festival, prompting widespread condemnation and calls for justice.

Reacting, the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe, described the incident as “alarming, disgusting and embarrassing,” confirming that investigations are ongoing.

No arrests had been made as of press time, but authorities assured the public that efforts to hold those responsible accountable are underway.
