Kogi lecturer collapse death shocks polytechnic community after staff member dies while teaching in Lokoja

A lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, Anslem Ojodomo, has died after collapsing while teaching students in a classroom in Lokoja on Friday.

The Rector of the institution, Salihu Avidime, confirmed the incident in a statement issued through the Acting Coordinator of Public Relations, John Onimisi, describing the development as a deep personal shock.

Eyewitnesses said Ojodomo collapsed while addressing students during a lecture and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite efforts to save his life.

The Kogi lecturer collapse death has sent shockwaves across the institution, coming barely a month after another academic, Barnabas Akuba, died shortly after completing his doctoral programme.

In his reaction, Avidime expressed condolences to the family and the polytechnic community, describing the late lecturer as a dedicated and humble academic committed to excellence.

He recalled meeting Ojodomo hours before the incident, noting that they had exchanged pleasantries shortly before his sudden death.

“The Polytechnic community is mourning the loss of a promising academic and dependable colleague, who embodied scholarship, service, and character,” the rector said.

Ojodomo, a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration, also served as Deputy Dean of Student Services and was widely regarded as an impactful educator.

Born on October 5, 1992, he held a Master’s degree from Prince Abubakar Audu University and had recently defended his PhD proposal.

He joined the polytechnic in 2021 and served on several institutional committees.

The incident has heightened concern among staff and students, with many calling for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the recent spate of sudden deaths within the institution.
