Kano court jails four robbers as High Court hands 10-year sentence and fines over armed robbery attacks in Ungogo communities

A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Adam Abdullahi has sentenced four men, Shafi’u Abubakar, Usman Suleiman, Usman Sa’idu, and Ali Isa, to 10 years imprisonment each for armed robbery offences committed in Ungogo Local Government Area.

The court delivered the judgment on Tuesday after the defendants were found guilty on three counts, including criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, under Sections 97 and 298(c) of the Penal Code.

The prosecution established that the convicts, all residents of Rijiyar Lemo, conspired to carry out coordinated attacks on residential homes in Sabon Garin Doka and Bankaura communities in the early hours of July 22, 2024.

According to court records, the defendants, armed with weapons, broke into the homes of Abdullahi Musa and Mansur Muazu between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., where they assaulted the occupants and stole valuables.

Items taken during the attacks included mobile phones, a motorcycle valued at N700,000, and various sums of money. In one instance, cash and foreign currency were also reportedly stolen from one of the victims.

During proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Garba Arif, presented two witnesses to substantiate the case.

The defendants, initially pleading not guilty, later changed their plea to guilty during the trial.

Justice Abdullahi subsequently found them guilty on all counts and imposed a sentence of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine of N10,000 for each offence.

The court ruled that the sentences would run concurrently, effective from the date of their arrest on July 22, 2024.

The judgment marks a decisive outcome in the case, reinforcing the judiciary’s stance against violent crime and underscoring the consequences of armed robbery offences in the state.
