Hamza Yahuza jailed for supplying Boko Haram terrorists after Federal High Court Abuja conviction for aiding terrorism in Borno State

In Abuja, Nigeria, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court has sentenced Hamza Yahuza, a father of six children, to seven years imprisonment for supplying prohibited substances to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

The convict, Hamza Yahuza, had admitted in open court to the offence committed in 2023, acknowledging that he supplied Indian hemp, cigarettes and other drugs to members of the terrorist group operating in parts of Monguno Local Government Area.

Hamza Yahuza Jailed for Supplying Boko Haram follows his appearance among a group of over 500 individuals prosecuted by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice for alleged involvement in aiding and abetting terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

During proceedings, Yahuza pleaded for leniency, expressing remorse and asking the court for forgiveness.

He attributed his actions to economic hardship, stating that poverty influenced his decision to engage in the illicit activity.

However, Justice Nyako rejected his plea for leniency, ruling that the gravity of the offence outweighed the mitigating circumstances presented.

The court held that supplying materials to terrorist groups constitutes a serious threat to national security.

Hamza Yahuza Jailed for Supplying Boko Haram was confirmed as the judge imposed a seven-year custodial sentence.

The court further ordered that the sentence should commence from March 6, 2023, the date on which he was apprehended and placed in detention.

The ruling reinforces ongoing judicial efforts to address terrorism-related offences in Nigeria, particularly cases involving individuals found to have provided material support to extremist groups.
