NDLEA crackdown arrests include a 93-year-old suspect and multiple traffickers as agency seizes large drug consignments nationwide
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), led by Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), has intensified its nationwide operations against drug trafficking, arresting a 93-year-old suspect, Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu, and a 69-year-old medical doctor in coordinated raids across multiple states.

The NDLEA operation also led to the detention of several other suspects and the recovery of large quantities of illicit substances, according to agency spokesman Femi Babafemi.
Babafemi confirmed that operatives arrested Pa Chigbu in Abia State, where 7.7 kilogrammes of skunk were recovered from his residence.
He said the suspect admitted to engaging in drug-related activities for over a year, having used the substance for decades.
In a separate operation, the agency intercepted an Ivorian national, Gohouri Michael, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport with 1.49 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed during transit.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a medical doctor, Dr. Chudi Daniel Ofomata, in Ogun State, with controlled substances reportedly recovered from him in what officials described as a significant breakthrough.
The NDLEA Crackdown Arrests extended to multiple states, including Ogun, where three suspects were detained with 34 kilogrammes of skunk, and Imo State, where 56.2 kilogrammes were seized from a female suspect.
In Niger State, operatives arrested a couple after recovering 118 kilogrammes of skunk from their residence, while in Borno State, a trailer carrying 42,290 tablets of Rohypnol and large quantities of codeine syrup was intercepted.
Babafemi added that operations in Lagos led to the interception of a luxury bus and a truck transporting cannabis and codeine-based syrup, resulting in multiple arrests.
In the Federal Capital Territory, eight suspects were arrested during a raid on a known drug joint, while in Edo State, officers intercepted two trucks carrying over 7,200 kilogrammes of skunk concealed within beer cartons.
The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaigns across schools and communities, aiming to reduce both supply and demand nationwide.

Brig. Gen. Marwa commended officers for their “decisive and courageous” operations, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to sustained enforcement and drug control efforts across Nigeria.
