Accord Party Tinubu endorsement denial as leadership rejects claims of backing President Tinubu, reaffirming focus on Osun 2026 governorship race
The Accord Party has firmly denied reports suggesting it has endorsed President Bola Tinubu, describing the claims as false and misleading during a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, April 24, 2026.

The party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, dismissed the speculation outright, stating that no such endorsement has been made or discussed within the party structure.
Mgbudem clarified that the party remains focused on its internal political agenda and preparations ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
He reaffirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the party’s central candidate and focus, stressing that all efforts are currently directed toward securing his re-election bid.
According to him, any official endorsement or political decision of national significance would be formally communicated through the party’s leadership and channels.
The clarification follows public debate triggered by a controversial billboard in Osun State featuring images of President Tinubu alongside Governor Adeleke, which sparked political tension between rival camps.
While opposition figures raised concerns over the imagery, the governor’s media team accused critics of misrepresenting the situation and reacting to rising political influence in the state.
Mgbudem also highlighted that internal party processes are ongoing, including preparations for primaries and the screening of multiple aspirants ahead of the elections.
He noted growing interest within the party following the announcement of nomination guidelines and fees, describing it as a sign of increasing political engagement.
Addressing internal disputes, the chairman dismissed claims of a leadership crisis, rejecting assertions made by Christopher Imumolen regarding party control or court-backed recognition.
He described the claims as unfounded and insisted that Accord remains united under its current leadership structure, with no factional division.
Mgbudem further emphasised that the party would not be distracted by what he termed political propaganda or external attempts to destabilise its internal unity.

He concluded that Accord remains focused on strengthening its political base and preparing for what it describes as a decisive election season in Osun State.
