APGA Resignation Aba: House of Reps member Mascot Ikwechegh quits party, leaving APGA without any lawmakers in Abia State amid local exodus

House of Representatives member for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, Mascot Ikwechegh, has resigned from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), marking the party’s loss of its last remaining lawmaker in Abia State.

Ikwechegh submitted a resignation letter to the APGA Ward Chairman in Eziama Ward 1, Aba North Local Government Area, on Saturday.

In the letter, he expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve and wished it success in future endeavours, without revealing his next political affiliation.

The resignation comes just days after all Local Government executives and ward officials in Aba North and Aba South also quit APGA en masse, signalling a significant shift in the party’s presence in the area.

APGA’s Abia State Chairman, Sunday Onukwubiri, stated that his office had not been formally notified of Ikwechegh’s resignation.

Onukwubiri reassured members that the party remains strong, united, and resilient, despite departures.

“It is unfortunate that some individuals discard the ladder they used to rise to prominence, but I can assure you that APGA will remain stronger and more united in Abia,” Onukwubiri said.

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who left APGA in December 2025, had previously left the party without any sitting legislators in the state.

Political analysts suggest that these exits could affect APGA’s influence in Abia State ahead of upcoming elections, though party leadership maintains confidence in its grassroots support.
